A well-balanced diet is crucial for all men. It not only improves overall health and wellbeing, but helps to maintain a healthy weight, lowers cholesterol, keeps blood pressure down, and reduces the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and some cancers.
Men have different daily nutritional requirements to women, but we should all be seeking a balanced diet for good health.
There are some simple rules to follow, but the most important of these are:
- Eat a minimum of five servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
- Try a variety of fruit and vegetables to get the maximum benefit. This is because they each contain different combinations of minerals, vitamins and fibre.
- Cut back on things like fatty foods, red meat, processed products, alcohol, takeaways, sugary foods, cakes / biscuits, butter etc.
- Choose fish, poultry, beans and pulses, wholegrain cereals, low fat /sugar dairy products … when possible.
